Ask ASTT, the assistant

Ask a trenchless question and get an answer drawn from ASTT's own library, with every point linked to its source.

Ask ASTT answers trenchless questions using ASTT's library. It's built to be careful rather than clever.

How to use it

Click Ask ASTT on the home page, beside the library search, or in the Library menu. Then type your question the way you'd ask a colleague. For example:

  • What controls pilot-bore deviation on a long HDD river crossing?
  • When is pipe bursting not a good option?
  • What should a CCTV condition assessment report include?

What to expect

  • Every answer cites its sources. Each point links to the paper, webinar or page it came from, with page references where possible. Click through to read the original.
  • No guessing. If the library doesn't cover your question, Ask ASTT says so, points you to the nearest document if there is one, and suggests contacting ASTT rather than making something up.
  • Answers are for members. Sign in to get a written answer drawn from every paper, guideline and recording. Visitors who aren't signed in as members see the library items closest to their question instead.
  • There's a daily limit, generous enough for normal research.

Good to know

Ask ASTT is a starting point for research, not a substitute for engineering judgement or project-specific advice. Always check the source material before relying on it.

If you spot an answer that's wrong or misleading, let us know at secretary@astt.com.au with the question you asked.
