Who we are
This website is operated by the Australasian Society for Trenchless Technology (ASTT), the regional affiliate of the International Society for Trenchless Technology for Australia and New Zealand. Questions about this policy can be sent to the secretariat using the details on our contact page.
Draft — awaiting ASTT review.
This privacy policy was prepared as a sensible starting point, not as legal advice. ASTT should have it reviewed by a qualified adviser before launch.
What this website collects
- Sign-in details. Your email address, and the display name, headline, location, biography, interests and links you choose to add to your member profile.
- Membership status. Your membership number, tier and expiry date, mirrored here so the site knows what you may access.
- Reading history. Which library documents you open, so we can show you what you have read and understand which material is useful.
- Messages. Messages you send to other members through the member directory, including who they were sent to and when.
- Saved items. Documents, events, jobs and members you bookmark.
- Technical logs. Standard server records such as your browser type and approximate location, used to keep the site secure and working.
What lives elsewhere
Your ASTT membership record — payments, renewals, invoices and the authoritative contact details — is held in Wild Apricot, the Society's membership system, and not on this website. Requests to change your membership record should go to the secretariat.
Cookies
This website keeps a small amount of information in your browser. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not sell data to third parties.
Always on. The site needs these to work, so they cannot be switched off.

Optional: embedded videos. Booth and library videos are played by YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive, which can set their own cookies under their own policies. They load only if you allow videos, or press Play on a single video.
Maps. The member directory's map view shows map images from OpenStreetMap. They load only when you choose the map view and do not set cookies.
Fonts and pictures are served from this website and its own storage, so no page asks another service for them. That includes the pictures in the ISTT technique descriptions, which are copies held here.
You can change your choice at any time on the cookie preferences page.
Who can see your information
Your profile appears in the member directory only if you choose to be listed, and each field (email, location, employer, biography, interests, social links) has its own visibility switch in your account preferences. ASTT staff can see member records in order to administer the Society. Service providers who host the site and send its email act on ASTT instructions only.
How long we keep it
Profile and activity information is kept while you hold a membership and for a reasonable period afterwards, so the Society keeps an accurate history. Deleted accounts are anonymised 30 days after the request.
Access, correction and deletion
You can download a copy of your information, correct your profile, or ask for your account to be deleted from your account preferences, or by contacting the secretariat. We handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles and the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Complaints
If you believe your information has been mishandled, contact the ASTT secretariat first. If you are not satisfied with the response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes
We will update this page when the way we handle information changes, and note the date of the change here.
