The company was incorporated in 1989 in Victoria working both as a sub contractor and head contractor on sewage, water and drainage works. Initially, the majority of work was for Melbourne Water, however in 1996 the company relocated to Perth in Western Australia. There as a main and pre qualified contractor, Rob Carr Pty Ltd performed significant portions of work for the Water Corporation as part of the Sewage Infill Program in Western Australia. Rob Carr Pty Ltd maintains its proud association with the Water Corporation and to this day still undertakes several kilometres of work annually for the Water Corporation WA.
The company regularly undertakes complex infrastructure projects. Trenchless technology in the form of microtunnelling, is heavily utilised by the company on all its projects throughout Australia. The company is considered an industry leader in the field and is widely known as the country’s premier contractor for tunnelling through difficult ground conditions, having completed several tunnels through saturated sand/silty ground conditions. The company has also completed some of the longest tunnels for particular diameter sizes having completed single drive length of 200m for DN600 pipeline sizes and 300m plus single drives for DN1200 pipeline sizes. Among other civil engineering capabilities, the company is also considered an industry leader in the construction of deep shafts and concrete caisson construction having completed several caisson to well over 20m in depth, the deepest being 26m for a 6m diameter caisson.
