Why Replace When You Can Extend the Serviceable Life of Your Existing Water Main?
Chris Frangos
Abstract
Water infrastructure across Australia is ageing, requiring greater investment to maintain current levels of service. Regulators are demanding greater efficiency in the way water infrastructure is managed and water authorities have limited resources available to achieve this. As a result, alternatives to traditional asset management approaches are being developed. From a customer and stakeholder perspective, use of this technology will result in a much faster renewal time (meaning less time connected to temporary services), reduced disruption during the works period, and reduced reinstatement. Up until now water main renewals have been characterised by online and offline replacement of the existing main with a new pipe or liner forming a pipe within a pipe. The middle ground between pipe replacement and continuing to provide reactive repairs has been vacant until now. A new solution is now available to fill this void, Scotchkote™ Pipe Renewal Liner 2400. 3M™ developed Scotchkote™ 2400 to provide a solution for water infrastructure managers to cost effectively tackle many of the problems common to potable water distribution systems worldwide. This paper will outline the benefits of Scotchkote™ 2400 applied using a spray lining process and outline its
