Urban Utilities Breakfast Creek Trunk Sewer Augmentation Project
Thierry Candito, Felipe Villafrade, Stephen Harding
Abstract
The Breakfast Creek Trunk Sewer Augmentation project will provide increased capacity in the sewer network to cater for growth in key areas of the city and minimise risk of environmental impacts. The work will also address a damaged section of existing trunk sewer that is limiting flows. The new trunk sewer is being constructed via a trenchless method consisting of a one-kilometre, 1.8 metre internal diameter gravity sewer main diverting the flows away from the damaged section of sewer pipe whilst also increasing capacity. Urban Utilities (UU) is the Principal with Fulton Hogan Utilities (FHU) as the Principal Contractor for the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and Works Delivery (WD) phase and Rob Carr (RCPL) appointed as the Design and Construct Subcontractor of the new sewer, manholes and connections. The preferred design alignment has the launch shaft at Perry Park, Bowen Hills with the alignment tracking to the Inner-City Bypass in Windsor . The tunnelling will track under both the Mayne Rail yard and Enoggera Creek.
