Abstract
During 2019, HDI Lucas commenced a 3 year Project in Papua New Guinea to remove and replace two DN1200 HDPE outfall pipelines, 190m and 236m in length. These HDPE outfall lines were set at 37 and 33 degrees to horizontal respectively. The first (TK050) outfall line had two separate ROV inspections which observed major damages to sections of the pipeline, though both ROV’s were lost due to obstructions presented from the damaged section. This left a third of the line unobserved. The crew completed the works removing the HDPE in early 2020 before demobilising to design and implement a construction strategy to reinstall HDPE in place of the removed liner, and to remove and reinstall the sister line (TK2050). The focus of this paper will be on project delivery. This project presented technical and managerial challenges due to the unquantified extent of the damage and condition of HDPE liner, the angle of operation, significant underwater operations and the remoteness of the operation.
