Trenchless technique

Panel Lining

Part ofSurface-applied Lining

(Other names for longitudinally short liners include sectional lining, discrete lining, segmental lining and short element lining.)

This renovation option applies essentially to person-entry pipes, tunnels, manholes, chambers, etc. In this technique, pre-formed panels are fabricated to fit closely to the interior surface of the pipe or structure to be relined and are then grouted, glued or anchored in place. Full profile panels are typically GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) that are maneuvered into place, joined using typical in-wall spigot and socket joints, and the resulting annulus grouted up. The panels may be manufactured from other materials including steel, polypropylene, PVC and HDPE. In addition to the panel strength itself, structural design requirements will depend on the extent to which adhesion is relied on for load transfer and, for partial and segmental panel linings, on the provisions for load transfer at the edges of the panels.

  Partial Profile Panels

Where deterioration of the existing structure is limited to only part of the interior surface (e.g. in the invert of the profile or in the crown of the profile), the panels may be designed to only line that portion of the structure.

  Segmented Full Profile Panels

Full profiles may be assembled in-situ with part panels that connect together with longitudinal joints, which are typically tongue and groove joints.
