Stifpipe : Frp Sandwich Construction for Repair of Pressure Pipes and Culverts
Mo Ehsani, Tony White
Abstract
Repair of corrosion-damaged culverts and pipes is a challenging task. This paper describes the development of a new type of pipe that can be used as a slip-lining solution for such applications. Unlike conventional pipes, the wall of StifPipe® is constructed of a lightweight honeycomb that is covered on both surfaces with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) layers. This results in a light, strong and non-corroding pipe that can be easily manufactured to any shape and size. The ability to build the pipe near the job site in a temporary facility is among the advantages of this product. The light weight pipe lowers handling and installation cost while improving safety of the crew on site. The development of this innovative product, some of the test results and field applications including the first application of this technology in Australia are presented.
