Picote Flexi-Sliplining System

Richard Swan

Abstract

The Picote Flexi-Sliplining System is an economical and fast method for the relining of DN100 to DN300 gravity sewers at 8 metres per minute, through existing manholes and without the need of a lead-in trench. The pipe is a self-supporting three layer corrugated wall consisting of high-density polyethylene (PE-HD) for the outer layer, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) for the inner layer and medium density polyethylene (PE-MD) for the sliding layer that is winched into the pipes via existing manholes. After installation, the inner diameter of the relined pipe is reduced by one size but the flow capacity of the pipe remains the same, due to better flow properties of the smooth PE pipe compared with concrete, clay or cast iron. The fully welded system can be installed by two operatives, whilst the pipe remains in service without the need for over pumping. The pipe has DIBt certification in Germany and has been independently tested by WRc for its resistance to High Pressure Water Jetting in accordance with WIS 4-35-01: 2008: Appendix B. The factory produced pipe has a ring stiffness of SN8 (kN/m2). Picote have subsequently developed a Connection Collar System for lateral connections. Environmentally friendly due to its low weight, the pipe is easy to handle and transport, it contains no toxic materials, no emissions in the air or water during or after installation and finally, its fast installation means less disruption to traffic and residents. The pipe is prepared on site thereby minimising waste. The paper will look at an installation undertaken by PBF Drainage Services Ltd.
