Performance of cured-in-place-pipe lined cast iron pipes with circumferential defects under internal pressure
Guoyang Fu, Benjamin Shannon, Jayantha Kodikara
Abstract
Circumferential defects may exist in deteriorated cast iron pipes before or after lining with cured-inplace-pipe (CIPP) liners. These defects may be in the form of gaps or failed joints and they may significantly influence the performance of the lined pipes under service conditions. However, limited research was found to have been conducted to examine the effect of circumferential defects on the behaviors of lined pipes. This paper intends to numerically investigate the performance of pressurised CIPP lined cast iron pipes with circumferential defects under internal pressure. Three-dimensional finite element models were validated first, followed by parametric studies considering different properties of the host pipe and the liner, internal pressure values and different interface properties. To facilitate the use of numerical results, an equation was derived for using non-linear regression.
