Abstract
This technical paper describes Cairns Regional Council’s record breaking construction project associated with the installation of the new sewer rising main (Rising Main K) project and demonstrates the exceptional achievements gained through the implementation of ‘outside the box’ planning, ground breaking innovative design and cutting edge construction technology utilising directional drilling. When faced with what appeared to be impassable delivery constraints, the project team turned its attention to developing a delivery strategy based on extensive stakeholder engagement, state-of-the-art technical design solutions and incorporation of best practice construction methodologies using trenchless technologies to construct the longest single pull large diameter sewer rising main project yet undertaken in Australia.
