Condition Assessment and Rehabilitation of Cast Iron Watermains in the City, Singapore
Aldred Er
Abstract
To ensure efficient use of resources, a targeted approach is adopted for water mains replacement by prioritizing highrisk water mains and those with multiple leak history for replacement. In addition, as Singapore’s underground space gets increasingly congested due to the continuous infrastructure developments, it is becoming more challenging to carry out pipeline replacement works, especially for transmission pipelines. Therefore, more innovative technologies are being explored for pipe renewal. This paper covers the adoption of non-invasive condition assessment (CA) method to inspect an ageing cast iron watermains and the trenchless technology adopted to renew watermains within the congested city area. Challenges of rehabilitating unlined cast iron water pipes in the city are also covered in this paper.
