Complexities in Stormwater Rehabilitation in the City of Gold Coast

Abstract
Abergeldie Watertech Pty Ltd was contracted on behalf of Gold Coast City Council to rehabilitate a large number of tidally affected stormwater mains ranging from 300mm up to 1500mm in diameter. The utilisation of trenchless technology has been at the forefront of stormwater rehabilitation in the surrounds of Gold Coast City Council. The scope of rehabilitation consisted of approximately 1.7 Kilometers of stormwater lining utilising methods ranging from Spiral Wound Dia-fit, Slip Lining and Cured In Place Pipe from various sites stretching from Paradise Point to Currumbin Valley over 13 suburbs and 34 Sites. With previous experience garnered from prior contracts working within the Gold Coast City Council and Abergeldie, 1 thorough investigation into site conditions and external factors was required to complete successful rehabilitation. The complexities of delivering the scope of works included combatting with inclement weather, tidal influence, submerged outlets, longitudinal and circumferential displacements, heavy encrustation caused by oyster/mollusks and the varying fineness of surrounding strata influenced the type and methodology of rehabilitation. The success and delivery of this project is attributed to the close working relationship developed with Abergeldie and the Stormwater Drainage Condition Audit & Relining Maintenance Services Branch of the Gold Coast City Council, and the local community.
