Case Study: Spiral Wound Relining the Solution for Deformed Pipe
Jason Fletchett
Abstract
Confronted with an oval shaped DN600 under an arterial road, the preferred rehabilitation solution was to use the spiral wound technique to reline an overflow sewer pipe. This solution needed to be implemented to eliminate further deformity to the point of collapse. The sewer pipe deformed due to the characteristics of the pipe, constant loading being applied and existing ground conditions. This pipe was destined to experience this type of deterioration. Investigation to evaluate the extents of deformation and provide a recommended solution for the project was essential. The project achieved completion with traffic management and additional excavation works that presented some challenges. This case study is intended to highlight the deformation discovered, the investigation to reach a viable solution and the carrying out of the works on site. This is all to ensure the lifetime of this pipe, the elimination of risks to the public and its infrastructure.
