Application of CIPP Liner in Water Mains in Australia - Project Case Studies
Ian McNab
Abstract
Infrastructure Australia has reported we lose approximately 80 litres per connection per day from our drinking water reticulation systems in Australia. At the same time many water authorities are struggling to fund adequate pipeline renewal programs. Other countries have provided evidence of the long term benefits of using structural Cured In Place Pipe (CIPP) renewal technology in drinking water pipelines. Recent projects in Australia have demonstrated the suitability of structural CIPP across different environments and with a variety of host pipes. There are a range of commercial considerations for selecting a pipeline renewal solution. However, the benefits are most likely to be achieved by effectively planning the project to reduce costs, minimize community disruption and improve the overall performance of the pipeline once renewal works are complete. Including structural CIPP as part of a renewals program can provide a cost effective way to improve water network reliability and minimise water loss.
