Application and Characteristics of Large-Diameter Pipe Jacking Method in the Tsengwen-Nanhua Interconnecting Pipeline Project
Min-Chen Lee, Siao-Cing Huang
Abstract
Taiwan’s drive toward resilient infrastructure in response to climate variability and energy security has accelerated the adoption of no-dig technologies. The Tsengwen–Nanhua Interconnecting Pipeline Project serves as a critical case, showcasing how trenchless construction can address engineering and environmental challenges in densely developed or sensitive areas. This paper presents key design optimization applied in the A2 section, which included over 4,600 meters of large-diameter pipe jacking. Key improvements such as jacking depth optimization and push-fit pipe connections were implemented to achieve better safety, reduce risk, and enhance system reliability. In addition to supporting regional water supply resilience, the project aligns with broader national policies promoting underground infrastructure for both water and power networks. The success of this project not only earned national safety and quality awards but also underscores the growing role of no-dig methods in Taiwan’s sustainable infrastructure future.
